Assistant Café Manager – full time, start date Sep / Oct

We are looking for a full time assistant manager to work in our busy café restaurant. Our menu is largely Mediterranean and Middle Eastern and we produce a lot of our food from scratch, including sourdough, yoghurt & cheeses, pickles, ferments and so on.

The role:

Full time, Wednesday to Sunday. Salary dependent upon age and experience (between £17,600 and £20,000, plus tips of around £1500). Mostly daytimes but usually one evening a week in the summer and occasional evenings in the winter.

Required experience:

  • At least one year in hospitality
  • At least one year working as barista
  • At least 6 months in a supervisory role


Regular café duties include but are not limited to welcoming customers, taking bookings, making and serving drinks, table service, using the till, restocking and washing-up and cleaning. Additional assistant manager duties would include shift managing (usually a couple of times a week), responsibility for ordering and stock, admin tasks (replying to emails, updating records, cashing-up etc) and covering managerial duties when the manager is away.

Chef  – full time, start date Sep, application deadline 4th August

We are looking for a chef to work alongside our current chefs (plus kitchen assistants) at our award-winning campsite and café. The café is relatively new but is steadily building a reputation for delicious, wholesome food made from scratch. We have a wood-fired clay oven and charcoal BBQ so an interest in cooking with fire would be beneficial. We produce a lot of our own foods in the kitchen (e.g. yoghurt, labneh, paneer, doughs, preserved fruits, chutneys, pickles and jams and so on) so the applicant must have an interest in cooking from scratch and kitchen processes. The applicant must be able to work well as a team, follow instructions and instruct other members of the kitchen. Salary depending on age and experience, starting at £18,000 – £22,000 (plus tips of around £1500). The days worked would be Weds – Sun during which we are open for brunch and lunch, and we also offer wood-fired sourdough pizzas on Fri and Sat eve in the summer. Most shifts would be daytimes but there may be one evening a week in the summer (in lieu of daytime shift) and occasional evening services in the winter (in lieu of daytime shift).

Responsibilities include:

  • Help to develop menu and hit GP targets, with an emphasis on seasonal, local, and foraged produce
  • Ensuring high quality of food and maintaining and building on our reputation
  • Ensuring a good speed of service – we are often busy so coping well with pressure is essential
  • Working to ensure customer requirements (dietary and other) are met where possible
  • Adhering to best practice kitchen hygiene
  • Ensuring kitchen is cleaned down to a high standard after service
  • Directing and helping staff to complete kitchen and cleaning tasks
  • Ensuring adequate prepared ingredients for service and backroom stock

Applicant must have:

  • Enthusiasm for high quality food and seasonal and local ingredients
  • Calm and confident under pressure
  • Be reliable, organised and committed
  • Friendly and well presented (we have an open kitchen)
  • Experience of catering and ability to cope with busy services
  • Preferably have existing food hygiene certification

Café Assistant – full time

Weds – Sunday, hours can be flexible from 35 – 42hrs depending on the applicant. Up to 4 evenings a month (in lieu of daytime shift) in the summer and 1 evening in the winter. Role will involve taking orders at table and using our till, taking table bookings, serving drinks and food, cleaning, washing-up and so on. Applicant must be minimum 17yrs and have café or restaurant experience. Salary depending on age and experience (plus tips). Start in April. Applicant must:

  • Have experience working in a café, table service and / or coffee training
  • Happy working as part of a team
  • Be reliable and committed
  • Have a friendly manner and be well presented
  • Interest in locally sourced food and well made coffee preferable

Kitchen Porter

We are looking for a couple of people to help part time washing up, cleaning and serving. This role is ideal for younger people and hours can work around school / college timetables. No experience is necessary but a good work ethic is essential. Pay is dependent upon age and experience and includes holiday pay. Tips are shared amongst all staff regardless of role. Start ASAP. Applicant must be:
