To celebrate the reopening of Fieldfare Café after our winter break we’re giving you the chance to win two nights’ camping for a family of 5 plus £50 of vouchers for the café and two bags of firewood – worth over £130 in total! Don’t worry if you’ve already booked – we’ll refund your booking if you win, and if you live locally and don’t fancy camping then you can just use the vouchers for a meal.

We are looking for original poems on the subject of camping, written in the haiku format (three lines of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables). Your haiku can be about any camping experience – good or bad! Here’s an example haiku:

this is a haiku:
here are seven syllables
and here are five more

Please send your entry to cafe@thistledown.org.uk with the subject HAIKU COMPETITION. Our judging panel includes award winning local author Sue Limb, poet Laura Webb, and writer, editor and comedian Betsy Vriend. We’ll take entries until the end of February and announce a winner at the start of March. It’s one entry per person, the poem must be your own and must not have previously been entered in a camping haiku competition. By entering you consent to us publishing your entry – credit to the author will always be given. The judging is fully independent and open to everyone.

Please note that you will need to bring your own tent and bedding. Prizes are valid for 2017 only and booking is required in advance (all weekends from May – Sep will become fully booked).
