Time of man
The focus on man, as part of the sculpture story is provided by an abstract artistic interpretation of the seven ages of man.
The timeline is represented with a sinuously curved Cotswold drystone wall constructed with varying sizes of stone that are organised in different patterns according to the stage of man it depicts. Whilst respecting and admiring the craft of drystone walling, which has been practised in the Cotswolds for hundreds of years, visitors will also be asked to reflect upon the impact man has upon the environment through the choices we make as individuals.
Whilst the inevitable sequence of the life cycle of man is represented by a clearly structured stone wall, the unconscious mind and soul of a human will be illustrated on the reverse side of the sculpture with a smoothly rendered surface splashed with random, brightly coloured patterns creating a visual palette of ideas, responses and dreams.
As with the other features that make up the sculpture story, the timeline will be enjoyed by visitors on an aesthetic level as well as helping to raise awareness of the environmental message that Thistledown aims to bring to life.
