Thistledown Henge

Set on a slightly raised mound, Thistledown Henge will pay homage to the significance of the stone circles constructed by our ancestors. Beyond the eternal admiration these structures inspire in relation to the construction skills of apparently primitive people, this sculpture will focus the visitor's attention on the importance of the seasons and the weather and the role of the ultimate life-giver - the sun.

The stone circle, comprising of one large central stone, surrounded by six smaller ones, will show how Neolithic man acknowledged the apparent movement of the sun in relation to the Earth, and how this in turn creates the seasons. As important as it was then to determine patterns in weather and climate, this sculpture area will be asking visitors to contemplate the current climatic change and its impact on farming and the environment. Experts will be invited to Thistledown to hold lectures about this topic and other subjects.
