We have a number of sites to choose from.
The upper site is accessible by car and you can park beside your tent.
The pitches are individually mown out amongst an elderflower orchard, with wild flowers and grasses in between. The upper site currently has one fire pit, and brazier/ BBQs are available upon request (numbers are limited).
The lower sites are situated in a very beautiful sheltered meadow valley. There is a large main site and two smaller sites adjacent. We do not allow vehicular access to these lower sites in order to preserve the environment and tranquillity of the site.
The lower camping car park is about 3 minutes walk away, including a very short but steep hill. A trolley is provided for you to take your gear down, or alternatively, for a fee we can run your party and your equipment down in a tractor and trailer.
The main lower pitch has two fire pits, and each smaller site has its own. Brazier/ BBQs are available free of charge (numbers are limited). For any of the sites we ask you to book in advance as we often have private events so availability can be limited.
Facilities are basic at Thistledown. Our spring water is available from taps on the sites. Composting toilets are currently under construction and will be available on the lower site by late July and the upper site by early August. We have been using events toilets. Both sites have straw bale urinals for gents.
The lower site currently has a solar shower tent. You can bring your own, or we can provide you with one for a deposit (numbers are limited). We shall be providing more permanent green shower facilities for next Spring. There are benches/ picnic areas throughout the site, and rubbish and recycling facilities are provided at the camping car park.
Prices are given per night. A pitch for up to a large family tent is £5 per night. Adults then pay £3.50, children £1.50, and under 4s are free (these are the entrance fees for Thistledown and gives you access to the entire site). Any day guests you have pay the entrance fee.
Wood is priced at £10 a barrowful, or you are welcome to bring your own. We ask you not to collect it from the site as we have a number of dedicated hibernacula for snakes and slow worms, and in addition we maintain a policy of leaving fallen timbers for fungi and woodland nutrition. The hire of a bat monitor is £1 (numbers are limited). We ask for a deposit of £10 for a solar shower (which is returned to you when you leave). Tractor rides cost £5.
We ask you to please be considerate towards the environment and other guests during your stay at Thistledown. No amplified music is allowed at any time and acoustic music must stop by 11pm at the latest. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept under control at all times and any dog mess must be cleaned up immeadiately.
Check-in and out times are flexible, but it is best to arrive/ leave between 10am and 5pm. When booking it is best to give us a rough arrival time as we may be on the farm.
